Happy New Year!!! With 2016 coming to an end, I thought I’d do a year round up/review of my first year blogging. Although I started my blog in November of 2015, I didn’t start getting serious about blogging until I got my first camera for Christmas.
My first style blog post in 2016 was with this comfy Calvin Klein coat. I had actually done a home organization post the first day of January that was my real first post of the year, but I’m only going to focus on style posts for this round up. I loved this coat then and I still do now. We first used the Canon Powershot to take my blog post pictures. As you can see, it got the job done but it wasn’t the best quality. It’s a great camera to start out with, but I eventually wanted a better one with the option to change out the lenses. I also wanted my pictures to be sharper and clearer.
For my second style post, I went with this look. My pictures were really dark at first because I didn’t start editing them until later. You live and you learn right? My advice… edit all your photos. My photos were also all different sizes at first too.
Here’s when I started editing my photos. Much brighter and better right? The quality was still a little too blurry and pixelated for my taste though. We were still using the Canon Powershot here though. And by we, I mean me and my boyfriend. He takes all my photos.
It took me a while to figure out how I wanted my backgrounds to look. I love street style, but I live closer to parks and grassy places. I did a little experimenting with the vibes I wanted to give with my backgrounds. I soon found that I really like the industrial backgrounds better for my posts though. Just my style and preference.
By now I started following more and more bloggers on Instagram. I was really starting to get more and more inspired by other bloggers’ style. I wanted to focus more on neutral, minimal looks that could easily be duplicated by anyone. I wanted to blog outfits everyone could afford to wear. I also really knew I wanted to go more with that street style vibe.
With the help of editing, my photos were starting to get better and better even though I was still using the Canon Powershot.
Here’s that coat again! On this shoot, I discovered my favorite alley to shoot my looks in. I still shoot my looks in this same exact alley today.
Different alley, similar vibe.
As you can see, I started trying to get my photos to be all the same size around this time. This was towards the end of winter, and I was really starting to get the hang of things.
Festival season inspired this look.
My birthday post! I still love this outfit!
My first post using my new Canon EOS Rebel T5. My boyfriend got it for me for my birthday! We were so excited to try it out that we didn’t even care where we shot the look.
Trying out the blurred background feature on the Canon EOS Rebel T5.
Still wanted more of that street style vibe to my photos, so we went out on the streets of Ocean Beach. As you can see, the quality and sharpness with the Canon Rebel is SOOO much better.
Back to my favorite alley! It was time for summer wear only now.
The two looks from my first brand collaboration with Sammydress. I was so excited to get the chance to do my first collaboration with a brand on my blog.
Back to the street style for summer!
I was so excited to shoot this look because it reminded me of 90’s grudge.
I love this outfit. Still one of my favorites!
Moving into fall here! Season changes are my favorite!
Back to the alley for my shoots!
This outfit always gives me good vibes and keeps me going because Forever 21 finally noticed this photo. I had been tagging Forever 21 in my posts since the beginning, and this photo is the one that finally caught their eyes.
Some of my most recent blog posts all in my favorite alley. I finally know exactly how I want my photos to look, and I know exactly how to edit them now.
My last two blog posts for 2016 using my new Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. I’m so excited to continue using this lens to improve my photos even more. I love the way these photos look with this lens.
I’d be lying to you if I told you I didn’t have my bad days. Some months I felt really discouraged and wanted to quit, but then I remembered I started this blog for myself and the people that encouraged me to start it. I also thought about all the people who liked what I was doing and appreciated all the work I was putting in to it. So even though I sometimes get huge amounts of people unfollowing me and I see other people growing their blogs faster than me, I have to remember I started this blog for myself and the people that support it. I HAVE to keep going and improving for you guys!
I can’t wait for 2017! I have so much planned already! I can’t wait to share it all with you, and to learn more along the way.
Thanks for reading and supporting me!
